I come to this boards, seeking advice from people i see as enlightned. The matter at hand is a personal issue really, but i feel that it affect more than just me. And that its a rather classical issue.

Me and my littlebrother are fairly different when it comes to personal traits. Im just gonna narrow it down real simple, so that people get my question.

My brother is pretty strong for his age(18). He can bench just about 100kg. Thats pretty impressive. Atleast in my eyes. However, he is not the brightest kid around. His intelligence is just below average.

On the other hand you have me. im 22 years old now. Im not a strong person like my brother at all. I guess i bench around 50kg. My strength is my mind. My IQ was recently measured to be somewhere between 150 and 160.

In my home my brother is praised all the time for his physics, and my mother always mess around saying "look at ur brothers muscles!" However my mental strengths are completly ignored, As if it was nothing.

This makes me feel uneasy.

Can my feelings on this subject be justified?

Why is the pysical strengts easier recognized, rather than the mental strengths?

P.S. Im well aware of the discussion on the IQ subject. still a number as high as 150 should give a fairly good indicator of the pressence of mental strenght.

Sounds like you were blessed with intelligence by your father.

Depends on the audience.
I admire intelligence much more than physique.

If I had two boys, each talented in different areas, they would have equal recognition, even if one were talented only in acting retarded.

It's possible. They do say that's genetic...

You should look at it this way. Whereas you could easily increase your musclemass through training and proper nutrition, your brother is not so likely to increase his IQ to match yours. No matter what your mother says, you are the fortunate son. When you're both around 30 something he'll just be a good looking goof while you'll probably be successfull in whatever you choose to do.

It isn't strength that recieves praise, but what appears as strength. Personally, I have what can be called a wiry build. That is, I am quite strong but I don't have bulging muscles. I'f I'm not flexing my arm it looks like a stick. No one ever points to me as says, "look at how strong he is." The closest the world comes to that is when it comes time to lift something heavy and I actually do it without straining too much someone will say, "wow, you're stronger than you look." So for me, strength of body is in the same catagory as strength of mind--it is something I can use to better myself and the world around me but will never recieve outstanding praise for... except when I use it.

Use your gifts. When you accomplish something everyone will see how strong you really are. That is, perhaps, the best way to be.

Tell your mum that you feel left out when she only hands the compliments to one party.

Ooooh: 150-160 in the intelligence ratings? You so smart, big boy! I like big brains! They make me hot! Flex your mendulla oblongata for us, would you, please?

Two questions:
1. Which of your brainiac parents gifted you with such extraordinary spelling abilities?
2. How could you have possibly received the impression that people herein are "enlightned?"
