So...you've never felt tired while driving but kept on going?
Feeling drowsy doesn't mean you're going to pass out instantly without warning.
You people are bound and determined to crucify this man.
WHY?

He complained about feeling drowsy, that’s when you pull over but he decided to carry and kill two innocent people instead and risk the lives of his own family.
You just don’t think any white Persian should be in prison for killing a non white person, I feel for his family and the navy should support them during his incarceration but he can do his time.
His pay and benefits will be restored. https://www.navytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2022/12/22/sailor-jailed-for-fatal-japanese-crash-will-get-pay-benefits-restored/

Alkonis admitted to feeling drowsy in a statement to police but then kept driving, feel asleep or passed out and smashed into several parked cars and hit two pedestrians in a parking lot, who later died. https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2022/06/05/us-naval-officer-in-japan-faces-prison-over-deadly-crash/

Given the same facts, it is highly likely he would have been prosecuted for negligent homicide or even manslaughter in the US.
