As more countries move to ban or restrict hate speech, the United States stands out for defending it, says the New York Times:

That's nothing. A Canadian couple has had their two children, ages 7 and 2, taken from them by Canadian child protection services because they were accused of being "racist" and providing an improper atmosphere at home for their beliefs. Canada is apparently going insane with political correctness.
Anyone have a link to the piece that was under attack?
From the small clipping included in the linked article, it sounds like the guy was just quoting something some priest said -- that sounded more like self-inflicted hate speech.
I dunno. When are people going to learn that having 10 kids in every family is unsustainable for this planet, whether you're muslim, jewish, christian, agnostic, atheist, or sphagnostic. It seems to be impossible to actually say so since that touches peoples cultural sensitivities.
Or... being accused of hate crime.

It's rambling nutjobery mostly asserting that liberal social democracies will be overrun by Islamic Fundamentalists because Muslims have higher birth rates. As such, it should be laughed at rather than suppressed.

Wasn't it the women who helped perpetuate slavery in the South due to their paranoid fear that they would not be able to keep their men interested if they had to compete on an open free market with African women.

know the saying? I think it pretty much describes what you're doing here,
but I just can't remember it. Hmm.
I agree that restriction of freedom of speech (or write as it were) is a
sensitive matter. The sad fact is (and I'm sure you agree with me here
being such a... "lover of diversity" ), the sad fact is that people
might actually take a pothead such as Steyn seriously. Another fact is
that it's forbidden in most free countries to promote hate crimes.
I wonder where I stand on this one.
