@whodey saidNew York's example is just a microcosm. The whole country suffers from 40 years of selfish conservative policy.

Well it looks like New York is modeling the Progressive utopia that they want for us all. Just a hand full of elites and the rest of their slaves.
Change is coming.
The big lie called "conservatism" is exposed.
Get over it.

@whodey saidThe problem is they're trying to define middle class the same way as it's defined elsewhere.

$30k-$60k/year may be middle class in Dubuque or Kalamazoo, but in NY, that's pauperville.
In NYC, assuming a couple and 2-4 kids, middle class means 100k-200k in income. People who make more $$ because of high paying NY jobs are willing to deal with that. People who can instead go to Tulsa and live like a Rajah on their $60k incomes are welcome to do so.

What has been amusing to me in the last while is that the working class which used to be the domain of the Communist and Socialist parties has now swung over to the conservatives.
Not just in US, but elsewhere.
It seems that Trump's GOP has become the workers' party.
And the capitalist and free market elites which used to be the domain of the capitalist free market GOP have now become the enemy.
And the darlings of the liberal mainstream media.
Karl Marx must be spinning in his grave !! 😆

@mghrn55 saidThat's not really true; voters with household incomes under $50K went for HRC over Trump by a wide margin 53%-41%.https://www.cnn.com/election/2016/results/exit-polls

It was even more lopsided in the 2018 elections; under $50K went Democratic by a 59%-38% margin.https://www.cnn.com/election/2018/exit-polls

@eye-of-horus saidThey won't physically move here in large numbers. They're absentee landlords. Once we start punishing absentee landlords which we currently reward this trend will reverse.
Told ya the Asians win in the end.
@eye-of-horus saidDepending on how you define "proximity," something like 60% of people in NY state live in "NY City and proximity."
The higher costs are in NY city and proximity.
The middle class in NY state is roughly the same as most other states.
