@vivify saidFarming should probably be banned given that European farmers have upset the EU.
That's a good point.
Even putting aside climate change, farming industries still harm the very land they use, as well as the local wildlife, lakes, streams, rivers and drain the reserve water supply needed by average citizens.
Some even threw eggs at the EU parliament building in Brussels. Disgraceful behaviour. Poor EU guys.
Some read-around for those interested in the wider picture.

@A-Unique-Nickname saidGrowing your own is the best start to eating well. Many window sills or tiny gardens can be used to grow something. It’s so rewarding thus good for our mental health too. Our UK government needs to ensure that communal growing spaces are included in any plans for new housing estates. We also all have a choice to either spend a big chunk of our hard earned cash on fast food outlets or buy organically grown veg which tastes great and supports the farms that put efforts into doing this.
Farmers have ruined the planet, it's time we all started to grow our own food and trade with others.

Oh please.
You think rolling up the entire size of the European farming industry is an argument.
Almost a fifth of Europe's total farming profits are made by just 3 companies.
The "entire size" is not as large as you think.

And if what you say is true about number of farm companies then all the more reason to support smaller more agile farming to differentiate in the right way.
@divegeester saidYou disputed that "rolling up" the farming industry was a valid argument; in reality, only a handful of corporations control most of the Europe's (and the world's) farms.

Of course we need to support small businesses of all types. But it's not the small businesses that causing the bulk of the problems, it's the bigger ones. The EU should start off by enacting stricter rules for the larger farms and more manageable rules for the smaller ones.

@Chuck-2 saidCould you explain your commercial and political rationale for this and what you think the impact would be on consumer prices and export competitiveness?
@divegeester
nationalise all uk farms
@divegeester saidIt's silly to think they don't pollute. In the US Midwest, thousands of lakes that used to be fun recreation areas are unswimmable because of farm runoff. Maybe the pollution is acceptable, but it's quite disruptive. There are other ways to farm that don't pollute as much. Government should encourage and support that.
They don’t pollute the planet, and they only kill some of the bugs on the food.

@wildgrass saidCompletely agree; but that only one part of the point of the OP.

@A-Unique-Nickname saidDo you have any idea how much land a family would need to raise their own food for year around self-sufficiency? How much time and work it would require?
Farmers have ruined the planet, it's time we all started to grow our own food and trade with others.
Do YOU grow your own food?
