How could Trump seriously be so stupid as to suggest that Easter services could resume with the Covid epidemic? Only half wits would remove the lock down.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/28/as-the-rest-of-europe-lives-under-lockdown-sweden-keeps-calm-and-carries-on

But when Sweden does it, removes the lock down on society, not a peep from those that worship the government of Sweden that is now more liberal on being anti-lockdown than Trump.

Naturally, they remain intellectual giants that worship at the feet of science while ignoring the lockdowns while Trump is a moron for just making the mere suggestion that they go away.

Carry on. Just revealing the "hypocritic" oath all Leftists seem to take when becoming a Leftist.

Personally, I think it a good thing to have a country ignore the lockdown so that it can be compared with others to see what usefulness these lock downs really are.

Of course, the 600 lb gorilla in the room is, the biggest issue to the spread of Covid in the US is coming from New York City, where about half the cases have been reported. And Europe is in the same boat there due to the fact everyone is Europe who lives there are mostly packed like sardines into large cities like New York which are nothing but a tinder box for this pandemic and more to come.

Can you cite a "leftist" condemning the lack of a nationwide lockdown in the U.S. while defending it in Sweden?

There is no doubt that Trump is erring on the side of optimism. Like thi sis a crime? Jeeeeezus

Or would you rather have Bolsonaro of Brazil, stone-facedly saying to the people, "yes, people will die".

Or perhaps you enjoyed the approach taken by New Jersey's head of public health who declared "We're all going to get the virus!"

Face facts, haters, no matter what Trump says, it'll be wrong.

There was also an article on the BBC website about that. It makes the point that 50% of households in Sweden have only one occupant, so that one member of a household doesn't mean that anyone else does. They're relying heavily on the normal behaviour of the Swedish population being sufficient. Possibly they've done some modeling which shows that their health system will cope with the disease without draconian measures. I imagine that the Swedish health care system is well provisioned. Their industry is more set up for home working. The BBC article also cites some disquiet among Swedish epidemiologists about the strategy. I also think they are ready to change policy quickly.

Basically, Sweden's strategy is not transferable to other countries. The situation in New York indicates it is not transferable to the US as a whole, maybe some States and Counties.

As for Bolsonaro from Brazil........
I would say that Trump’s best quality is that there is someone out there who is worse.

Let’s just say that the Easter resurrection is out of the question.
NYC death toll will probably surpass 9/11 by then.

Erring on the side optimism? That's a bit of a stretch to say the least. Here are some of Trumps quotes over the last few months.

'We pretty much shut it down coming in from China. It's going to be fine'.

'We're going very substantially down, not up.'

'One day it's like a miracle, it'll disappear'.

'And this is their new hoax'.

'I think we're doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down....'.

'It will go away. Just keep calm. It will go away'.

And then the gem of all gems after the National Emergency was declared, two 'very big words'.

'I've always know this is a real, this a pandemic'.

Intellectual giants don’t worship at the feet of science.
They generally don’t worship.
Religious dummies, however, worship religious doctrine.
And worship, worship, worship.........

Now go to church and lick the pews.
Go on. God’s got your back !! 😛

I see, so just because Sweden does something, like nationalize health care, it's not always going to work everywhere else?

Interesting.

I'm a little wary of you overgeneralising my statement. I'm referring to a specific emergency response, not any long term structural policy. That their coronavirus policy is not appropriate for New York State does not entail that their policy of having a nationalised health care system is not. In fact I can imagine that their policy regarding coronavirus might be fine in Alaska, I don't know. It depends on specifics.

As it happens, according to Wikipedia, their health service isn't not really nationalised, there is some private health care, but it's owned and run by county councils, there's a high level of decentralization. The US equivalent would be something along the lines of each State controlling it's own health service.

Actually, there is no lockdown in Sweden, because Sweden has issued guidelines (along those of the Dutch version of a lockdown) and relies on their citizens to act mature and decide, for themselves, how to act accordingly.

Now... just see the reactions here.
Just see how you interpret it yourself...

And ask: why does you country not trust you to act responsible? Why does your country have to use repressive measures to achieve the same goals?

Yeah.
The world is slightly different and infinitely more diverse than you can even imagine.

Go figure.

Which probably means that Trump will invade Mongolia.
