People should have the right to assisted suicide.
It's their life.
It should be open to anyone and not just the terminally ill.

Blowing your brains out with a gun is so 1990's 🙄

I know 3 people who killed themselves.
One uncle and two of my parents friends.
Two hung themselves and one used a shotgun.

Crazy world. 🤔

I've changed in my latter years.

I don't see why people who suffer tremendously can't die in dignity.
Do we need them to uphold SOCIETAL view on how one must fight to the very end?
Without checking the Libertarian plank on euthanasia, I am sure they think of it as legal.

I find it interesting that a debate about assisted dying (and/or suicide) has finally cropped up.

While this gets nowhere near the same debate coverage as abortion, I feel, imo, that assisted dying is the flip side of the coin of the abortion debate.
And I stress that it is the same coin.
While abortion has a larger element of religious morality (pertaining to human sexuality) attached to it, both issues have the same element of religious teachings to it.
That being that “we are all God’s children”.
While I do not profess to be anywhere near an expert on religious teachings or theology in general, I have had more than my fill of hearing that phrase through much of my adult life.
We all belong to God. Implication being that my life belongs to God.
Whether I believe in God or not !!
Abortion and assisted dying (or suicide) can be debated on pretty much the same platform.

Just my thought for the day.

It's an interesting thought @mghrn55. I would add the death penalty. I know several people, friends really, who are anti-abortion but pro death penalty.

Our beliefs systems are what they are. The arise from within and we believe many things without conscious choice. We just believe them. Until we don't.

So you question someone saying that it is ok to kill the guilty but not the innocent?

I question society's ability to determine guilt and innocence. Tehran is not the same as Toronto which is not the same as Tulsa. Each has a method for determining guilt and innocence.

Why do you bother with guilt or innocence? Abortion only kills the innocent.

Now it's kind of a circular argument.

Our beliefs systems are what they are, which I already said.

You have a belief about life before birth. That is yours. Not right or wrong - a belief.

Some believe we are born in sin and there is no innocence. Others do not believe in the concept of sin. The current world population is 7.8 billion people - so 7.8 billion beliefs systems.

Let's not start trying to imply that one person belief system is correct and someone else's is incorrect. They are beliefs.

So you are saying nothing.

There is no such thing as right or wrong, just opinions. This is your opinion. The only opinion that matters is yours.

So you believe that a death by virus is the same as death by human hands?

You have a strange opinion.
