So for the first time, Obama seems to be favoring a conservative cause, which is drilling for oil/natural gas off the shores of the US. In addition, he is talking abour building nuclear power plants So why the change? Why has he seemingly forsaken the left winged environmentalist groups? As the article says, it helps address two problem which are unemployment and dependence on foriegn oil. If nothing else, it will help to be able to give lip service to addressing these problems that weigh heavily on voters minds come the next election in 2012. However, perhaps the most important reason is to seek middle ground with Republicans on cap and trade in order to get some of them to vote for it.
Originally posted by badmoonI refrain from giving him credit simply because I am not entirely sure of his intentions. For example, one can drill off shore on a small scale and only build one or two nuclear power plants, or one can pursue both in a meaningful way that will reflect a decreased dependence on foriegn oil. If such pursuits result in a decrease in foriegn oil consumption, I will give him credit. But if this leads to cap and trade all bets are off. Cap and Trade is the worse economic outcome to all this if it helps push it through.
Obama could kiss whodey's rear end and he'd still complain about it.
