Obama's kill list

Bestselling Liberal author Glenn Greenwald denounced the news this week that President Barack Obama conducts weekly meetings to decide which terrorists to target for assassination. He also criticized liberals for supporting Obama's Bush-like counter-terrorism policies.

Every Tuesday, Obama convenes a meeting with about two dozen security officials. They scan the intelligence reports and make recommendations on which terrorist suspects to target for assassination. Obama makes the final determination on who to target.

Among Greenwald's many concerns, he criticized Obama's definition of an enemy combatant (any military-aged male in the vicinity of a terrorist suspect), the lack of transparency or oversight, and his legal justification for the program (the internal White House meetings are said to satisfy "due process").

"The Democratic Party owes a sincere apology to George Bush, Dick Cheney and company for enthusiastically embracing many of the very Terrorism policies which caused them to hurl such vehement invective at the GOP for all those years. And progressives who support the views of the majority as expressed by this poll should never be listened to again the next time they want to pretend to oppose civilian slaughter and civil liberties assaults when perpetrated by the next Republican President," Greenwald wrote.

What disappointed me was the news that came out some time last week suggesting that the administration has very strict criteria for classifying casualties as "civilians" and very loose criteria for classifying casualties as "enemy combatants" in regards to anti-terrorism strikes.

First of all, there are unfortunately too few people of all political stripes who are angry about this and conservatives who cheerleaded the Bush admin policies that helped create this mess.

Second, there definitely are liberals who are pissed about this including myself, but whodey only finds out what liberals think by going to right wing news sources.
