Should the torch run around the world before the games?
I think the olympics are a great thing because they bring all the people from around the world in one great competition ...
you are only the best if you win the olympics - other wise it is just some local victory with most competition excluded.
I think the torch should parade the world as a symbol that the games are able to get past bickering and boycott and protest and do indeed represent the world's best.
If the games organisers choose countries to host the games which do not allow universal contribution to the games then it is a sign that the games are not all inclusive.
The olympics are a massive diplomatic initiative ... they need to focus primarily on that - not just who might make a spectacle.
The torch relay gives the world an opportunity to demonstrate that it is united behind the olympics, and that medals won there will have a world wide meaning.

You created the "Ministry for silly answers" by pretending that anything done by baddies is bad ...
back to the question : should the relay be run? (remember hitler is dead and gone)

Still I want to know more: I want to know if it is a good thing.
I appreciate your attention, but i do not follow the logic that just because a bad man was involved 60+ years ago it is a bad idea.
I am interested in the ideal of the idea ... extracted ...
... a symbology that all people are united in the exploration of what it is to be human at our best

Sorry to rain on ya'lls parade again, but the Olympic Torch emits 5,500 tons of CO2:

Maybe we should put it out since it's contributing to "global warming?"
to keep the torch and simply find a way to reduce the damage it does? I mean, 5.4 gallons
per mile seems a bit extreme. I think we can do better than that with our 21st-century technology.

The Olympics were meant for amateurs, not professionals or people who do nothing day after day but practice whatever sport they are in being paid by their respective government to do so. Then we have the commercialisation of the games, corporate sponsors vying to get their product name out. For me, its ruined the concept of the Olympic Games
The Olympic Games are nice I suppose because it gives everybody watching the chance to suspend disbelief for a bit and slip into a venue where everyone in the world loves one another. Its a great diversion from reality.

change if you didn't care. Of course, that barb was, again, fraught with a fraudulent understanding
of climate change, despite repeatedly being told that 'global warming' is a misrepresentation of
the entire picture, and despite being unwilling to admit to any standard of scientific judgment
by which you would be convinced that humankind contributes to climate change.
Let me ask you this, if you dare to answer a question directly: Do you think that there is any
amount, no matter how astronomical, of CO2 that humankind could generate that would have
a noticeable effect on the climate?
