It’s quite effective in instilling discipline but no it’s not much use against drones and nukes.
An effective grunt is a slightly brainwashed grunt that acts instinctively to an order rather than having an inner debate about going left or right / forward or back.
Because Afghanistan is a system of independent villages with no cohesiveness towards anyone but the few hundred people in their immediate area. They could care less about the people a few miles over the next hill.
It's a crappy little sand pile that will never be conquered by anybody, and the sooner we get out of that godforsaken crap hole the better.
Let them stew in their own juices, it's what they deserve.
