Seems to me that most people who want to vote for Obie are just doing it to vote for the party, and the folks who want to vote for McCain are voting for the person.
I think McCain is CLEARLY the better candidate, but in this debate thats beside the point. What is more important to you in your vote, the party or the person. For me it is more for the person, but there is always a feeling of loyalty to the party, But I would have no problem crossing my party lines if I thought Obie was better, but I just plain don't think he is.
So, party or person?

george washington once said that a 2 party political system would ruin any democracy. so if you think a green, constitution, or libertarian candidate is the best, then go for it. people want to pick the winner in the US. seems as if canada has 4 that get a respectful # of votes.
if you want to get into party, id say switch barr with mccain. thats just me, i dont like how mccain has changed from rather liberal to the typical republican, trying to fit a mold. i wouldnt say obama supporters are just voting for party at all, id say its far from that. in the past years the party has been scattered so badly that its always been about the individual instead of a team effort.
I vote for the person. I've been supporting Obama for close to a year, but with reservations. I liked McCain better than any of the other Republicans, but like him less now than I once did.
The debate made abundantly clear that McCain's experience has failed to give him the perspective needed to lead this country out of the mess it's in. He'll take us further down the road towards self-destruction.
Obama's foreign policy instincts are good and most often on the mark, but they are usually a hard sell to voters who know less about the world than their peers in all other countries.

If you have notice, Mrs. Palin has been in very few interviews whereas Biden has been in very many.

Originally posted by PocketKingsThis is an incredibly false statement. McCain is drawing straight from Republicans and brought little Sarah onboard to bring in those lunatics of the far right of the Republican part. The numbers I am seeing have Obama drawing way more from Independents, myself included.

Since I don't have a party, I always vote for the man. However, I haven't voted for a Republican in a national election in probably 20 years. I haven't felt that the Republicans have been honest people (man or woman). They always seem so slimy.

I tend to vote based on what a candidate says and does.

Originally posted by PocketKingsI voted for a Republican county coroner once, but in office he turned a simple autopsy of an AIDS victim into a crusade against gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Now I screen all candidates more carefully. McCain's choice of Palin is sufficient to make that ticket wholly unacceptable. His 90% pro-Bush voting record is another sufficient reason.

Originally posted by PocketKingsOnce I voted for a moderate Republican running against an a Democratic congressman who supported Reagan's huge and wasteful military buildup. No other Republican in any other race reflected anywhere near my views (I said I voted based on my views).

I usually vote for third parties, but I'll vote for progressive Democrats if they are available.
