People here (you) have said that Paul received authority from the high priest according to the new testament. That is at best problamatic since the high priest had no authority whatsoever in Damascus (or in any of king Atreas cities). Secondly a bit of history would be in order. In the first century the Saducees were the "sympathizers" with Rome while Roman ...[text shortened]... hy Paul was on the road to Damascus with letters from the high priest authorizing him.

Sorry about the above question.....Anyway, I don't think that there is any proof to speak of other than what was written by who you would consider his 'lacky'. Most of what is written in the bible cannot be backed up by physical proof. The whole belief cannot be backed up by physical proof same thing with the OT.
Even if you discounted paul from the new testament, would that make it any less? I will not dice about the Holy Roman Catholic Church and there canons or other clarifications, and addendum for control of a population, or the elevation to power for a few using it for that purpose, or their own glory and personal power.(even though I don't think this is the case 99% of the time). The church is not the faith. The Bible is not the faith. Christians do not worship the bible (at least they should'nt). If the bible were not ever written, the stories would have been passed down through song or story anyway. At least I think so.

There is no Paul in the old testament. As far as the bible being backed by historical accounts. To be honest, there are a few things mentioned in the new testament (historical accounts) that are confirmed by history yet there are about 60% more historical accounts from the old testament that have been confirmed. Discount Paul from the new testament? That would mean removing 70% to start and then editing out his influence in the remaining 30%. there would be an extremely small amount left and it would paint a vastly different picture. You say if the bible were never written the stories would have been passed down orally. Well I must inform you that what would have been passed down is NOT what is written in the new testament. To believe otherwise is just a pipe dream.
