Why should they be banned? If the Dutch elect a party to power based on the platform of lowering the age of consent then c'est la vie. Isn't that what democracy is all about?
EDIT - Not saying that either of guys think they should be banned. Just to be clear.

I read today that the Dutch courts have refused to ban a political party whose sole purpose is to lower the age of sexual consent to 12. Where is Ivanhoe?

By the way, they don't stand a chance to win a seat in Dutch Parliament. Some people are just a bit too liberal.

"They reason that only "coerced" or "dangerous" sexual activity should be punished"
If paedophilia weren't so demonised by society then the children wouldn't be traumatised. Try learning a little about ancient greece http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pederasty_in_ancient_Greece
As long as the child isn't physically hurt or damaged by the acts, why does society judge it to be wrong? Driving paedophilia underground makes it more devious and incites paedophiles to be more violent.
devils advocate question: what is the correct age for legal sex? Is it based on mental, physical or emotional age? Considering how different people mature mentally, physically and emotionally at different rates, and in each of these areas at different rates in themselves, on what do we base teh 'correct' legal age for sex? The age at which most are all-round mature enough to handle it? Which is correct then - 14 as (I believe without checking) it is in Spain, 16 as it is in the UK, or 18 as it is in (some States) of the US? How are these lines drawn and on what basis?
Originally posted by DelmerYou're right, we couldn't. And I'm glad. I myself am not in support of lowering the age of consent, but it should not be legal to ban a party with that goal, or any other goal. Banning a politcal party is about as opposite to the First Amendment as you can get, regardless of what they stand for. If you make it illegal to hold a belief, or support your political belief, just becuase it is unpopular, that is totalitarianism.

interetsing points. I agree that similarity in age plays a great part in teh 'acceptability' of younger sex in my mind. I'm not entirely sure why - I think because a 14 year old girl and a 14 year old boy are on more or less teh same level, whereas a 28 year old guy surely must be coming from somewhere else. See, I can't explain it very well.
On the subject of it being more OK for a younger guy to have sex with an older woman than for a younger girl with an older guy, is it maybe more to do with the feeling that the older partner is being predatory? The preception that old guys are and old women aren't? The reason is that (and please don't think I'm trying to rile you here) I think you'd have similar objections to a young boy having sex with an older man as you would to a young girl doing the same. But if young sex for boys with women is OK then why?
