    He did it because the supply side economics he started off with sent us into a double dip recession, so he and Cap Weinberger cooked up "Soviet military superiority" to justify unprecedented spending. His budget deficit by 1984 wasn't just bigger. It exceeded all the prior deficits combined. But people were working. And he made people feel comfortable with their provincialism. Don't worry, be happy.

    It was Clinton who reduced spending and eliminated the deficit. And then Bush took over.

    But you're right, it's rigged. The universe is rigged. Basic economic laws require certain government action in a modern economy. Rigged is as rigged does.
