Such a person could be a person claiming the freedom for factory farmers to treat their animals in a way the farmers themselves CHOOSE, in a way the farmer himself finds acceptable. After all they are respectable citizens and who are we to be, to his request to become "pro-choice" and "tolerant"?
.
Bruce is Pro Life but legislatively Pro Choice for whatever reasons...
An Rights activists are pro animal life and in this instance that you mention not so much pro choice-- we are working on legislatively making changes so that animal cruelty is punishable by law...and we have come a long long way. We don't think anyone should have a choice to torture an other individual, no matter what the gain to themselves...Recently pig farmers were put in jail for 3 three due to animal cruelty!
Anyhow, here is where i think the difference lies...
** the baby is in a woman's body and she has authoratative say as to what happens to herself and therefore her baby...but with animals they are individuals outside of any connection to some other body and therefore we can not compare the same scenarios as such. We can make comparisons on other levels however, such as pain, innocence etc...I am completely there with you on such levels...shall we move this conversation to the other thread?
Here is the thing about being against abortions but also against outlawing them: outlawing them doesn't mean that they won't happen, and the outlawing just makes things more dangerous for women who decide that they need abortions.
Somewhat comparably, alcohol causes many problems, but prohibition caused even more, and people still drank.
