Generally Chess is considered either an art, a science, or a combination of both. I love the aeshtetics of the game, and I tell by looking at the position whether it is favourable or not and how to maneuvre accordingly, sort of going with gut instinct to help in my calculations. I find reading books on strategy in general (Art of War etc.) is more benficial to me than reading and memorizing patterns.

I disagree with people who say there is no practical benefit of learning chess--that it is just a game. For me I see a lot of the same logic in literature, sports, art that there is in chess. Your thoughts?

Chess has a rich history in strategy and tactics. I find it a wonderful way to encourage mental activity and an enjoyable past time.

However: addiction to any game can cause many real-life conflicts...

which totally suck.
