Governor Abbott of Texas has freed a recently convicted murderer due to right wing social media pressure (the victim was a BLM protester): https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/texas-gov-greg-abbott-pardons-daniel-perry-who-killed-black-lives-matter-protester-in-2020/ar-BB1mwpNH?ocid=BingNewsSerp
Daniel Perry's jury rejected his claims of self-defense after a trial in which he was allowed all the requirements of due process. No new evidence has surfaced in the year since his trial, yet the Governor chose to replace the jury's evaluation of all the evidence at trial with his own politically motivated fiat.
A disgrace but typical of the lawlessness of the right wing in the US (and elsewhere).
@no1marauder saidThe right wants to be able to get away with shooting protesters they don't like. e.g. Rittenhouse.

@no1marauder saidHere is a liberal who speaks of disgrace.

Just Biden's needing drugs for the SOUnion was disgraceful. Note that I said last month that he should be drug tested for the so-called debate, and now everyone is wanting it. People of common sense, that is.
@spruce112358 saidSonhouse nails a post!!

@AverageJoe1 saidYou should know by now that most of what Trump says about others is completely unfounded allegations and lies.
Just Biden's needing drugs for the SOUnion was disgraceful.
@no1marauder saidIf Texas should ever try again to secede from the Union, let them go. Build Trump’s wall at the Oklahoma border.

The post that was quoted here has been removedThe Texas jury was instructed on State law which allows the carry of weapons like AK-47s. It rejected Perry's claim of self-defense based on the evidence presented them.
Pardons of murderers should be rare and based on new evidence, proven bias or some such extraordinary circumstances. This one is based on nothing but right wing politics and pandering to extremist social media demands.
@eYe saidYou're wrong. It was the Governor's decision and the board is just a bunch of his political cronies, appointed by him for having the "qualification" of giving him substantial campaign contributions.
@no1marauder
It wasn't the guvna who made the decision. It was the whole board and the guvna signed it.
Abbott instructed them to review the case and recommend a pardon immediately after the jury verdict and before sentencing. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/daniel-perry-how-long-could-the-texas-board-of-pardon-and-paroles-take-to-review-case/
The post that was quoted here has been removedThey were approaching him because he ran a red light seemingly because he wanted to provoke a confrontation based on numerous messages he had wrote stating he wanted to harm BLM "rioters" which were admitted into evidence:
"In a Facebook message from May 2020, just weeks before the shooting, Perry told a friend he “might have to kill a few people” who were rioting outside his apartment.
The documents also contain a May 2020 text sent by Perry that said, “I might go to Dallas to shoot looters.” Some messages included “white power” memes.
Perry wrote in a 2019 message that it was “to bad we can’t get paid for hunting Muslims in Europe.”

The jury saw such evidence which you apparently didn't and which Abbott disregarded.
