There is an annual contest at the University of Arkansas calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's term was: "Political Correctness."

The winner wrote:

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

As a conservative I haven't any time at all for the well documented idiotic manifestations of 'Political Correctness' but out there in the real world, PC is 90% common decency, dude. Ranting against it, without having this fact in mind, does not serve the cause of conservatism well. It's weenie feed, dude. But then, I've had a look at your posting history. You peddle some kind of parody of a right winger on this board, I reckon. You are a left winger trying to make conservatives look like cretins. Your exposed, dude. As of here and now.

One of the most persistent delusional forms of political correctness is believing that political correctness is reserved for a particular side of the political spectrum. Taboos are found in every society and within every (sub)culture within those societies.

No. I see your left wing parody pants at your ankles, dude. Oldest trick in the book. Pretending to be a right wing cretin. Your posting history says it all.

Without political correctness, we will still have rampant racism, sexism, homophobia and mistreatment to anyone considered "different".

Naturally there are people who take PC to the extreme which can be detrimental to progress, so flexibility should be taken into consideration.

Although it appears that we still have rampant racism, sexism, homophobia etc. 😞

It is better than it used to be though.

If I wasn't politically correct, I'd be banned from this site for calling Sartos Retardus "somewhat lacking in intelligence and charm."

Really. I'd be banned for life.

It was introduced by Communists and only pushed by the left here in the US. PC is a disease that should be pulled out by the roots and thrown into the fire.

PC is not Taboo, it is the forcing of one point of view on others. PC is the micro management of society by the government. If we had freedom of speech, then there would be no such thing as PC.

Something which is not politically correct, is something that is a taboo within some (sub)culture. As I said, it's found on all sides of the political spectrum, for example it's not very likely you would see a Fox News pundit criticizing the Founding Fathers or the Constitution, because that would be "un-American" (i.e. politically incorrect).
