Why is polygamy/polyandry still illegal in the west when churches are marrying same sex couples, wasn't these laws set by the same religion that forbid same sex couples? i don't see a problem if all parties are happy.
Isaiah 4.1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

Originally posted by leestaticI agree. There are so many women I'd like to marry. And I think women should be allowed to have many men. You know? I'm married to Stina, who's married to Kent, who's married to Helga, who's married to Jonny, who's married to Sara, who's married to me. What's so wrong with that? It's variety, and variety is the spice of life I've heard.

I'm dead serious, by the way.

Rich men would be able to afford lots of wives ending up producing numerous offsprings, while poor men struggle to afford a single wife. I'd rather not to see rich gits living in a harlem, not because of envy to their success, but for sympathy for potential wives who could possibly be forced into it for finacial complications. You never know.

Also, polygamy may increase the chance of inbreeding especially in small towns.

Problem is the offspring. Monogamy is the odds-on best chance you have of rasing a child that won't turn around and kill you or someone else for all the wrongs they perceived they suffered. And even then, it just raises the odds. If children are led to believe they're happy, they might just go through life that way. (Now all the same-cat parents are going to pounce, but how many generations of child-rearing do they have, really?)

Appologies for not having the chapter and verse as I am not religious myself. Anyway, I live in a small town with polygamy. You assert that polygamy MAY increase the chance of inbreeding. From my observations around town, I would bet the rent on that!
