A WEEK or so ago America was seized by a spasm of fury over the bonuses paid to executives at AIG, a troubled insurance company. Across the country Americans were enraged that people who had helped to cause the financial meltdown were being rewarded for their incompetence ...[text shortened]... form of entertainment and where the political parties have turned partisanship into a fine art.
In my opinion the spasm and fury was a distraction from the real
causes of the trouble we are in, the government’s actions. The bankers
may have taken advantage of every rule in the book, but who wrote
the book! It was congress, the AIG bonuses were signed off on by
Congress and the Pres, yet do we hold them accountable or the people
who made their livings on those bonus? The contracts again were
signed off on. So who is to blame here, the ones playing by the rules
of the day, or the ones who wrote the rules? It is down right scary to
see people's homes, their kids, their lives threaten due to something
everyone who had a chance to stop signed off on. If anyone in
government who signed off on the stimulus bill causing it to pass with
those bonuses intact complains about the bonuses it was their lack of
due diligence that caused this to go forward and happen, they should
shut up and apologies for NOT DOING THEIR JOB and let the
rule of law go forward as is.

If the government cannot take the time to look at the bills they are
signing off on, why should we trust them with changing the rules of
health care, or energy or anything else? What really needs to happen
is we vote out the brain dead vote for it because it is a D or an R
who pushed it forward crowd and put in a group of people who will do
what is required, like actually READ the bills they put their names on
at a bare minimum.

Populism is the polite term for mob rule. Countries, economies, institutions, and the companies that comprise them must be ruled by people with the education, the experience, and the background to make them successful. Populism brought George Bush to the world, and nearly made Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world. Joe Freakin' Sixpack might be qualified to choose the next American Idol, but he doesn't take the time to educate himself, isn't sophisticated enough, to choose his leaders. George Bush proved that. Plato had it right; benevolent philosopher-kings are the ideal.
