He was a revolutionary and a nasty person. He did not hesitate to kill or have killed in the name of the revolution. With Che, human rights did not count - the revolution did.

Personally, I think the world is a better place without people of his ilk. Democracies on the other hand are supposed to be more even handed, more lawful and more given to the rights of the individual. I posted these quotes a while ago and think it's time to do so again. Democracies, I've always thought, should work to higher ethical standards than dictatorships and certainly American-style democracy, the way it is marketed:

“The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious, and is the foundation of all totalitarian government.”
—Winston Churchill, on the 1943 decision to release Nazi sympathizer Sir Oswald Mosley.
“No person shall … be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law…” —5th Amendment to the U.S. Bill of Rights
"Preventive war was an invention of Hitler. Frankly, I would not even listen to anyone seriously that came and talked about such a thing." - Dwight D. Eisenhower 1953
"Allow the president to invade a neighboring nation, whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion, and you allow him to do so whenever he may choose to say he deems it necessary for such a purpose—and you allow him to make war at pleasure." -Abraham Lincoln
"That we are to stand by the president, right or wrong is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt

I can subscribe to these moral values.
