Could someone explain to me why a "private" school should get Government support.

If it is "private" then it is a commercial enterprise that should stand on its own two feet.

The Government should put all the education budget / funds into public schools.

If a so-called private school cannot survive without Government assistance, then it should be allowed to go bankrupt like every other inefficient business.

@MartinS
Public schools should be sufficiently financed to give qualified education to all children in all areas wherever they are located and regardless of socio-economic status. If that is achieved, there will be no need for private alternatives.

One function of government is to educate. If private schools are providing part of that service then the govt should assist with funding. It is like any other service.. eg public transport, electricity, water. These are all either fully or partly funded by government. The issue is that almost all govt departments are inefficient, and benefit from the efficiency provided by private enterprise.

The fact that people would pay to send their children to a private school means there is something lacking in the public school which the govt cannot afford to provide.

By that logic, Telsa shouldn't be getting any federal or state govt. support either.
