"Twenty-four hour cable news coverage of the ugly war in Ukraine is keeping Americans hyped up and dumbed down. The very real horror of war is on the screen for all to see. The bombed-out buildings, the mounting civilian casualties and the frightened refugees speak their own truth. Unfortunately, we rarely see the victims, the grieving families and the terrified refugees when the invader is the US. The "shock and awe" US terror bombing campaign on Baghdad was described by one network TV anchor as a "beautiful thing to see."
Totally absent from nonstop coverage of the war and condemnations of Russian president Putin is any reporting on the role of the United States and NATO in creating the crisis over Ukraine. No reports about the relentless NATO expansion up to the very borders of Russia. No mention of US missile emplacements in Romania and Poland. Nothing about the unilateral US exit from vital nuclear treaties—the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (George W. Bush, 2002), and the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty (Donald Trump, 2018).
Such reporting would be unpatriotic in a time of war, would it not? We don't want to justify Russian aggression. We don't even want to hear their side of the story. A simplistic, one-sided narrative tells us that Vladimir Putin—who is both evil and mad—has initiated a war in order to rebuild the former Russian empire. Who knows where he might stop? There is absolutely no evidence to support this implausible narrative. But the truth be damned. This is war."

When the invader is the US you don't see the victims as much. Now that the invader is Russia you get a steady stream of victims to manipulate your emotions. If you do not recognize this as being propaganda you are being stupid.
@metal-brain saidI've no doubt that you are an expert on this subject.

If Putin is horrible for invading Ukraine Bush and Obama are horrible too. You do see the hypocrisy. You just don't want to accept it doesn't make sense to accept contradictions like that.
Why are unprovoked invasions good when we do them but bad when Russia does them? Isn't that kind of cognitive dissonance stupid? If it isn't propaganda making you stupid what is it?
@metal-brain saidThis article refers to a very small subset of people. CNN primetime gets (at best) a million viewers. I think reporters get stuck in a cycle where they're on twitter all the time and they watch Tucker Carlson so they think everyone must be "nonstop" brainwashed just like they are.

We're not. Most of us have jobs that switch our brains to a different frequency every once in awhile. The propaganda is easy to see through.
Read and watch local news.
@metal-brain saidThat's not true. There are plenty of outlets that have reported on it and I've posted links on this site discussing that, in addition to No1Marauder, Shav, and others.

It's not that it hasn't been reported; the problem is that you, an apologist for Russia, want that topic to dominate media coverage rather than Russian bombs murdering civilians.
@vivify saidSimple question. Is the corporate news media biased against Russia in their reporting right now? Yes or no?

@metal-brain saidThe only non-corporate news media I know of is PBS/NPR.

A lot of people think they see it and maybe you see some of it, but I doubt very much you see all of it. A lot of propaganda is what you do not see. For example, the corporate news media does not mention the thousands of people that were killed in the Donbas region. That omission is propaganda. It serves to distort the historical context that is essential for proper understanding of that history.
Propaganda by omission can be challenging to notice. You must find out what they are not telling you, not just what they are. The corporate news media cannot erase history, but they can suppress certain parts of history by omission.
Have you noticed there are not people on the corporate news media debating this important geo political conflict that could possibly lead to WW3? That is another thing you need to notice you are NOT seeing. That is why propaganda by omission is so effective. People notice what they see and hear, but not so much what they do not see and hear.
Next time you watch the news ask yourself what you should be seeing and hearing that you are not. If you do not see any debates take notice. If important historical context is missing take note of it. If there is a bias against Putin that also applies to GW Bush invading Iraq it should outrage you. If it doesn't you might have Putin derangement syndrome.
The local news doesn't investigate world news. They just report what the corporate news media is reporting.
"Tucker Carlson so they think everyone must be "nonstop" brainwashed just like they are."
It seems to be popular lately to call Tucker a liar, yet nobody has proven he lied about anything. I think you have a false perception of that. Sometimes when people have been indoctrinated by propaganda and have accepted a false narrative and they hear the truth it sounds strange. They then deny the truth because the truth merely seems absurd.
Can you prove Tucker wrong?
@wildgrass saidYeah, but it is funded by many corporations and Bill Gates. Their reporting is biased against Russia too.
The only non-corporate news media I know of is PBS/NPR.
@metal-brain saidHow would you know if it was biased or not?
Simple question. Is the corporate news media biased against Russia in their reporting right now? Yes or no?
@metal-brain saidI dunno and i don't watch/listen. From the clips I've picked up, the well paid corporate media "analyst" Tucker Carlson parrots Putin word for word on his state-run television. Tucker's a word smith with illogical arguments, a theatrical wizard who doesn't care about news or reality.

That is just silly. Do you think the same thing about me? It wouldn't be the first time somebody thought so. I have been accused of being on Putin's payroll and even being a Russian. I didn't know wanting to avoid WW3 was unreasonable.

NPR/PBS is probably the least corporate source of news you can find in America. I trust them and my local newspaper.
@metal-brain saidWTF are you talking about? Invading Iraq made Bush one of the most hated men in the world. There were protests around the entire world against the invasion. Here's a NYT article from 2003 about how the whole world reviled Bush:
Is there is a bias against Putin despite the fact that invading Ukraine is no more evil than GW Bush invading Iraq?

And Here's an article from 2006:

George W. Bush: The Worst President in History?
What "bias" are you talking about? You're just spewing crap to defend Russia.
