I agree. Beheading just looks shocking. A person's first reaction is usually something like "that is sick and barbaric", but to me it is how much pain you feel before you die that matters, not how gruesome it seems.
I have noticed that those that are beheaded for sorcery are usually guilty of other crimes as well, but having sex with a couple of marri ...[text shortened]... m curious sh76, do you think these are the Syrian Rebels that our country is arming and funding?
Geopolitics make strange bedfellows and strange alliances.
Was Stalin a mass butcher? Sure. Were we right to team up with him to knock out the greater evil? Absolutely.

"I don't know who that group of people are."
That is fair. I don't accept that ISIS beheaded the two American Journalists just because our government says so. It could have been anybody. Why should I expect you to accept the Syrian Army beheaded Christians just because a website says so? They could be Kurds or Shiites doing the beheadings for all we know. They all look and dress alike after all.
Would you also say you don't know who beheaded the two American Journalists or do you have a leap of faith in our government?

You just accept what you are told and never question anything on the corporate news that is known to misinform. Remember WMDs? There were none just like there are no beheadings.

Maybe supplied by the USA in a previous "diplomatic exercise"?

Probably not, though I guess it depends on which numbers you accept.
If you accept the proposition that all European World War II deaths are Hitler's responsibility, then definitely not.
Aside from that, the deaths attributable to Stalin primarily were either the affirmative murder which were designed to purge political opponents or indirect deaths caused by economic and social policy. Most deaths attributable to Hitler were calculated murders of civilians and/or based on aggressive wars that he launched. Other than the Finnish war of 1939-40, Stalin did not launch aggressive war.
I don't want it to come off as though I'm defending Stalin. He was a mass murderer and a really bad guy. But he's a notch below Hitler on the evil scale, IMO.
Originally posted by Metal BrainI don't think it requires much of a leap. There is no serious opposition to the claim that ISIL murdered the journalists; nor, to my knowledge, has ISIL bothered to deny it.

In Western countries? You mean in the US?
I do believe the rest of the enlightened world did away with the death penalty altogether.
Clearly you view this as "enlightened" policy. Many Americans do not. Why not leave the matter to local authorities that are faced with dealing with crime, and that would include the Saudis.

It is a small notch.
