Saudi Arabia - beheading in the 21st century.
Saudi Arabia uses public beheading as the punishment for murder, rape, drug trafficking, sodomy, armed robbery, apostasy, sorcery and certain other offences. 2007 was the record year for executions with 153 men and three women executed. Forty five men and two women were beheaded in 2002, a further 52 men and 1 woman in 2003 and 35 men and a woman in 2004. Executions rose in 2005 with 88 men and two women being beheaded and then reduced to 35 men and four women in 2006. 102 people were executed in Saudi Arabia during 2008 but it is thought that two of these were by shooting in Asir Province. 67 people were beheaded in 2009, including two women. The execution rate fell markedly in 2010 with 26 men being beheaded. 76 men and 1 woman were beheaded in 2012.

Saudi Arabia is an ally of the USA so you should not be surprised that you hear little about it in the corporate news media. This is the selective nature of propaganda. You are supposed to think ISIS is evil, not Saudi Arabia.

Should we think the biased news media is evil for this selective reporting?

Bit of a problem with sorcery over there.

Do the accused receive a formal trial in Saudi Arabia?

There seems to be a difference in capital punishment and the murder of innocents in most people's opinion.

All this talk about the beheadings.
What about gassing or the electric chair. Is that really any more humane?

No, the humane way of killing people is to inject some chemicals and then watch them die slowly and in pain during an hour.

Capital punishment implemented in Western countries is for murder.

Capital punishment in Saudi Arabia is done for a myriad of things, including drawing a cartoon of Mohammad. Just look at them cross eyed is enough reason to lop your head off.

Also know that their reason for living, Mohammad, personally beheaded around 700 people. Therefore, it is their duty to continue the tradition of beheading the infidel.

Western cultures have no such way of thinking.

Who cares. Like Finnegan said, they have a sorcery problem over there and they need to nip it in the bud. Remember, 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi Arabian. If terrorists bring sorcery over here we are screwed! 😛

Good point. The French considered the guillotine a humane form of execution. I don't think I can argue with that. Like Kazet, I would rather not be injected with chemicals if I were sentenced to die. As long as the beheading is quick it is probably the less painful way to die.

The way the Saudis do it is not as humane as the guillotine though. They stab you in the back first so you lift your head up in pain, then the executioner can hack your head off more easily. Nice, huh?

In most cases lethal injections first put the executed to sleep, and then stop breathing with a second injection. No pain whatsoever if properly administered. The end result however is the same.

The weekend newshour finally covered what I brought to you all first. It is about time. It was not on the corporate networks though. PBS is clearly a better news source than NBC.

I'm not so worried about beheading per se. It does bother me that they can and apparently still do execute people for "crimes" like witchcraft, sodomy and adultery. That part is absolutely a human rights violation.

I agree. Beheading just looks shocking. A person's first reaction is usually something like "that is sick and barbaric", but to me it is how much pain you feel before you die that matters, not how gruesome it seems.

I have noticed that those that are beheaded for sorcery are usually guilty of other crimes as well, but having sex with a couple of married women hardly justifies execution. I have a problem with that too. I guess the ultra conservatives over there would think of us as far too liberal for their liking.

Here is a link that has a video of actual beheadings shown, unlike the videos of jihad john showing no actual beheadings.

I'm curious sh76, do you think these are the Syrian Rebels that our country is arming and funding?
