Putin calls war in Iraq ‘pointless’

President Vladimir Putin, in his latest jab at Washington, suggested Thursday that the U.S. military campaign in Iraq was a ”pointless” battle against the Iraqi people, aimed in part at seizing the country’s oil reserves. Putin has increasingly confronted U.S. foreign policy in recent months, deepening the chill between Washington and Moscow. Among other things, he has questioned U.S. plans for a missile defense system in Europe and the U.S. push for sanctions against Iran for its nuclear programs.

Ignoring the "US/Russian relations" bit for the moment.....isn't he right?
Hasn't this pointless war been named as such repeatedly, even by ordinary Americans in the street?

As for the missile defence system, well, it's hardly surprising that he'd (and China, N Korea Iran etc) be against it.

There is a difference between disagreeing with something and being a responsible party if your country commits man-slaughtergenocide of another nation.

Putin is trying to contain and even to push back the US's influence in every region of the world ... and at the same time he's trying to increase Russia's influence.

So, those people who look upon Mr. Putin's latest actions on the world stage as motivated by warm feelings towards the oppressed are sadly mistaken. His actions are as imperialistic as the US actions.

Putin isn't stupid ... he knows what American newspapers and tv are telling the American people and what the American public opinion is "thinking".

He is an intelligent man and he is able and willing to push the right buttons. That is in Russia's interests.

Putin is more imperialistic than the US because in the US there are checks and balances that don't exist in Russia.
