When has a government of a free nation ever quarantined the people of the nation indefintely?

What is the longest time a government has quarantined the nation?

In the US King governors are shutting down their states by fiat. Trump has not shut down a single state.

China, Italy, France, Spain, India, the UK, New Zealand, Poland....all around the same time as the U.S.

Which brings us back to the question, before this event when have so many citizens of the US been forced out of their jobs by the government indefinitely?

How many US politicians could live on 1200 dollars a month?

Funny, that's about what a full time worker making the Federal minimum wage has to live on.

Funny, I wonder if a person who has a budget based on a take home pay of 60k a year is going to be able to meet obligations with 1200 a month.

I know, you are retired and do not care about younger people trying to make it in this world.

@Duchess64

Lol

OK any serious comments about this indefinite shut down of the US economy?

By this handy dandy calculator (https://labor.ny.gov/benefit-rate-calculator/), they'd normally get $504 a week from NY Unemployment. However, if they lost their job because of COVID, they'd be entitled to an extra $600 a week Pandemic Unemployment Compensation until July 31st, 2020. https://www.nysenate.gov/newsroom/articles/2020/brad-hoylman/unemployment-insurance-benefits-faq-new-york-state-department

So they'd be getting $1104 a week in my State.

So I think they'll be OK.

There isn't one. Over 70% of the economy remains functioning. https://www.thedailybeast.com/coronavirus-has-shut-down-29-percent-of-us-economy-wsj
