@eladar saidIt's no surprise our antiquated social welfare system is having some initial difficulties; the US has resisted developing a modern one for decades.

Here is reality
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/17/nyregion/coronavirus-pandemic-unemployment-assistance-ny-delays.html
As unfortunate as those individual stories are, most people are already receiving sufficient assistance to tide them over through this temporary public health crisis. Heck, quite a few workers are getting paid more now on unemployment then they did when they had jobs.
@no1marauder
You have quite the heart. Obviously people are now having the times of their lives in New York.
Now back to the question.
When has the United States government quarantined its citizens indefinitely? What state Constitutions allow citizens to be held indefinitely against their will?
@no1marauder saidYou heard it from no1, nobody is suffering economically from this shut down.
Good news; the US Congress already thought of that:

@eladar saidPeople are getting by in NY and doing their best to avoid getting themselves and their families and loved ones sick with a potentially lethal disease.

I already answered that question several times and gave you the relevant case law and history.
Haven't read every State Constitution, but I'm pretty sure they all allow the Governor to take emergency measures during an epidemic or other natural disaster. As of a month ago, 48 States have declared a "state of emergency": https://www.businessinsider.com/california-washington-state-of-emergency-coronavirus-what-it-means-2020-3#washington-1

@eladar saidInstead of seeing problems... and then more problems... and then problems based on hate filled stupidity... think of solutions.
Funny, I wonder if a person who has a budget based on a take home pay of 60k a year is going to be able to meet obligations with 1200 a month.
I know, you are retired and do not care about younger people trying to make it in this world.
If a family can’t get by on 1200$, how do you make sure they can?
What can be done in the short, middle and long terms to keep families living, stimulate the economy, etc.
A large part of the world is experiencing the same situation as the US. How are they coping?
Well, one town in England is mooing, but we can’t all be that cool...
It’s like my job. Basically meeting after meeting and writing advice. 6 weeks of quarantine (I think. One week longer than the rest of the Netherlands anyway; which now means you can guess which area I live in)... straight to MS Teams.
If that’s the boat and oars I have to float with, that’s the gear I will use.
And I’ve already offered ideas on how to make the app better (when meeting with 12 or more people).
You probably conference call classes too.
So, how do you entertain the troops?
How do you keep people living?
How do you bring joy?

@no1marauder saidLol, definitely because we have seen it done already so many times.

You can espouse all the authoritarian state bs you like. It fits your view of governing so you defend it.
@eladar saidSir - I can appreciate your frustration. But you might want to consider the following: 1. Stay at home odors from Governors for the last 1-2 months have not "shut down" the economy. 2. Stay at home orders for the last 1-2 months are far from "indefinite" 3. Until a reliable vaccine is developed, sending workers back to the workplace will condemn thousands (if not more) of them to die. 4. Governours are not issuing stay at home orders because they enjoy it. Healthy people can produce many goods and services, sick people produce few, and dead people produce - none. Get it??
@Duchess64
Lol
OK any serious comments about this indefinite shut down of the US economy?
@eladar saidOver the pond i get £27,500 per year just nto lounge about drinking beer, not working ,get food and booze delivered every couple of weeks, its great I can do this forever.
Which brings us back to the question, before this event when have so many citizens of the US been forced out of their jobs by the government indefinitely?
How many US politicians could live on 1200 dollars a month?
@badradger saidA year?! Good God sir. I spend that every week on biscuits.

@badradger saidThat would be awesome if you do not have a large house payment and no credit card payments, no roof to replace, no medical bills, no..
