If someone said they were raising their children to be free spirits, what would you undserstand or imagine this to mean? Would you be inclined to to nod approvingly or to roll your eyes and/or raise your eyebrows?

I would tentatively interpret "free spirits" to mean anti-establishment types. I would nod approvingly.

Roll eyes. I know someone who is raising such, he's an undisciplined monster that thinks he's smarter than everyone else even though he's thick as a brick.

Would a smart person consider black people as destroyers of the
society built by white people just because they happen to have a
different skin color?

Hardly. So, if "free spirit" gives individuals the opportunity to grow
free of fears and small mindedness, I would say it's a valid
parenting choice.

Sorry, I don't befriend people like you.

I respect all, though, regardless of their education, social position, income, skin
color, sexual orientation, language, or nationality. Hence, I will consider your
petition and let you know the outcome.

Do you mean anti-establishment as in protesters outside the WTO events or as in real anarchists?

Either.

It would depend on who is saying it. If it's a moron, then I would roll my eyes. If it's a sensible person, then I would approve.

First I would ask what that means specifically and what practical things is he doing to allow his children to be free spirits.

If I got a similarly vague answer on the follow up, then I'd roll my eyes.

Well, the OP beat you to it: what would you understand or imagine [raising children to be free spirits] to mean?

It would be more interesting to hear your answer to this than to simply contemplate how you missed the point of the OP. ๐Ÿ™‚

Probably no spanking or other physical punishment...possibly no punishment at all, but rather "conversations".

I'm cool with it!

So the question is, what does one think "freedom" is?

I dare say that no one tries to raise slaves. As for myself, I would try to teach them about the evils in the world that esslave people. Of course, man loves to enslave his fellow man with ample examples of such. However, being a follower of Christ I would point to sin as a slave master, although most would probably argue that becoming sinful is liberating. As Christ once said, those that sin become a slave to such sin. Perhaps I should bring back my slavery thread?

No. Not at all. Please start another thread about that if you want to.

My point is that the term is so vague I would have an idea as to how to go about defining it. That's why I'd have to follow up and ask for specifics. I think that 10 people could reasonably define that term in 10 different ways. As such, the term does not give me enough information upon which to base an opinion.
