Republicans tend to be more consistent and disciplined voters, while Democrats tend to vote based more on emotion. Republican campaigns tend to be fueled by big corporate $$, while Democrats tend to rely more on a well organized grassroots ground game. 2012 result? I'd say Obama has a 75% chance of getting reelected, while the GOP has a 75% chance of controlling both houses of Congress. Prepare for more gridlock...

Saying that Obama has a 75% chance of getting re-elected is very optimistic (for Obama) but at least it has some relevance to reality.

Saying that the GOP is has a 75% chance of holding both houses after the election is absurd. While the GOP has an excellent chance (maybe 90% ) to control the House, the most optimistic GOP projections for taking the Senate (especially if Obama wins, giving the Dems the tie break) would peg their chances at maybe 25% (personally, I'd peg the odds of the GOP getting 51 seats at maybe 15% ).

In light of Massachusetts and Missouri, I have to agree. I was pretty worried about six months ago, but I think the Democrats will hold on with at least 50 seats and probably more like 52.

Actually, the real surprise for me is Nelson winning over Mack in Florida - if that really plays out because Florida is one place where the Republicans have a serious ground game going.

That's true in general. Conservatives are rational, calm-headed thinkers with reserve, decorum, and manners; Liberals are screaming luncatics that careen from one nervous breakdown to another.

I guess you forgot that Ron Paul supporters are Republicans and call themselves conservatives. Also, you conveniently left off Bachman, Palin, Akin, Mourdock, etc. Reserve? Decorum? Manners?

And how "rational" are the social conservatives? How are the the conservative Republicans ""thinkers" in their religious fundamentalism in wanting a theocracy and thinking that there were dinosaurs on the ark?

I've met both Palin and Paul. Both are models of reserve, decorum and manners. They do point out when other people are lying which tends to make others mad at them.

I don't think that even one of those mentioned thinks there were dinosaurs on the ark or proposes a theocracy.

There are some anecdotes about Palin which contradict your opinion of her. I don't know about Paul.

First, I said Ron Paul supporters, not Ron Paul. Further, the Republicans themselves (non-Paul Republicans) criticized Ron Paul supporters as plainly lacking reserve, decorum, and manners.

Second, you are incredibly naive to to not know that at least half of the Republican party including the social conservatives and religious fundamentalists believe that the Earth has only been here 6000 years, and that there were dinosaurs on the Ark. Bachman is one. The are many many examples of Republican candidate, legislators, and appointees including in education and science, who believe that dinosaurs existed with man, and that there were dinosaurs on the Ark.

The majority of Republicans are Young Creationists.

A little problem with reading comprehension?

A majority of Republicans believe that the Earth has been here 6,000 years, that man existed with dinosaurs, and that there were dinosaurs on the Ark.

Polls like that are really depressing. I find it hard to believe that 25% of those with a post-graduate education would actually agree with the statement that God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years. Is it anything like that in other Western countries?

What do you expect. We are talking about a population that elected "W" twice and on the verge of electing Obama twice.

At least the President is much more secular maybe even with agnostic tendencies. Quite the opposite, W held a weekly Bible study in the White House in part for guidance in making important decisions about the country.

Further, highly unlikely the President is a young creationist. In contrast, W became a fundamentalist after his partying days.
