Sucking up, shutting up
The vast majority of Republican officeholders, who should set a better example, worship him outright or cower in silence.
Sen. Rick Scott went to Trump’s trial last week in a show of loyalty, but long before that, he and a dozen Florida House Republicans voted against certifying Biden’s election. (In an editorial at the time, we called them “the Sunshine State seditionists.” )
Even now, Rep. Byron Donalds of Naples, said to be on Trump’s vice presidential short list, is among those who will not commit to respecting the outcome if Trump loses fairly again.
So it’s significant when someone breaks away from the MAGA pack, as Georgia’s former Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan did.
Writing in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Duncan said he would vote for Biden and that other Republicans should, too.
“I’m voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass,” Duncan wrote.
He said it’s “dead wrong” for Republicans to believe they’re obligated to support the party ticket, no matter what.
“Yes, serious questions linger about President Biden’s ability to serve until the age of 86,” he wrote. “But the GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era, leaving conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me no choice but to pull the lever for Biden.”
Trump, he said, “has shown us who he is. We should believe him.”

@Mott-The-Hoople
Yep, there they were standing right behind Trump, you NAILED THAT ONE.
Mikey, Trump's pet squeaker of the house fell down and played dead when Trump commanded Mikey to kill the border bill and Trump admitted on national TV it was because he didn't want Biden to get ANY credit for getting a border bill which shows clearly Trump could care less about the border situation, his EGO is WAY more important than anything policy driven.
@spruce112358 saidTrump has left us no choice.

With an abdication of responsibility on the right, people with a brain are left with no choice but to vote for Biden.
Yes, this is also a vote for "not-Trump", but this is what the right has pushed us and the country to the brink of.

want to rephrase that?
if i were an American i would probably vote reluctantly for Biden but are you really going to tell a palestinian american who lost family in Gaza that they have no brain?
Did you think about that or have you no heart?
@spruce112358 saidThe GOP has been in serious trouble since they assimilated the Tea Party. The formerly solidly-slighty-right-of-center GOP feared that the Tea Party, if left as an independent Third Party, would split the Republican vote and leave the Democrats in possession of Congress. So they decided to co-opt the Tea Party, believing they would moderate its radicalism. The opposite has occurred: the Tea Party has radicalized the GOP and now holds all of Congress hostage to its agenda, refusing to negotiate with the Democrats, pulling the rug out from under any Speaker who dares to solicit Democratic support for a bill, and blocking bills which don't suit their radical agenda.

Trump is pursuing Project 2025 (google that) with the goal of replacing the civil service (that means the ordinary people who do things like process your driving licenses and your tax returns and count your votes) by his hand-picked appointees (whom he can hire and fire if they don't do what he wants, e.g. 'find' him 11,070 votes on demand).
People, this is not government by the people, of the people, or for the people; it's the high road to a banana republic with a strongman in charge (for life). Many Republicans are cowering in fear, and if they aren't, they bloody well should be.
@Mott-The-Hoople saidNow Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers,
we know who the swampers are...no need to point them out
And they've been known to pick a song or two (yes, they do),
Lord, they get me off so much,
They pick me up when I'm feelin' blue, now, how 'bout you?
The Swampers. So great...

The reason our democracy wouldn't survive a second Trump presidency is because it wouldn't be a bumbling shart-show like the first, checked at every turn by good people who fell on their swords, one after the other. As you say, the first thing Trump would do is replace everyone with his own loyalists.
And then Republicans think Trump will follow the 'playbook' they outline in Project 2025.
They think Trump will follow THEIR playbook...
Republicans think that Trump, who has never done what they wanted in the past, is going to just FOLLOW their 'playbook.'
Wow. Talk about being forking clueless for a 3rd time in a row.
The simple fact is, no one (including Trump) has any idea what Trump would do. He might cherry-pick some parts of the Republican 'playbook'. Or he might ignore it all together. What we can be absolutely sure of is that he will stay in power until he dies and will then hand the reins of power over to one of his kids.
The ONLY way to get his 'dynasty' out of office will be civil war.
Some people think that's hilarious. But they don't live in the US.

@spruce112358 saidOne thing is clear: January 6th 2020 was only an amateurish dry run. He”s lost the popular vote twice in a row. That won’t matter next time; he’ll be better prepared next time. The justice system has failed miserably to get him disqualified and off the ballot timely.

@spruce112358 saidHe's a loose cannon, that's for sure. He touts himself as the champion of business and free enterprise, but an unpredictable president is not good for the market. That should make traditional conservatives wake up and think twice, whether they really want 'Caligula' to reign.
