About 1 in 9 Republican primary voters voted for Ron Paul. In particular, Paul received 10.9% of the Republican primary vote. His supporters are a decent size bloc of the Republican party I guess.
Ron Paul edged out Newt to eek out 3rd place ion the delegate count. He came in fourth in the popular vote in the GOP primary:
Etch-a-sketch flip-flop Rom 10,023, 280 (52.1% )

Favorite quote during the primary:

Originally posted by moon1969Ron Paul is a libertarian, not a typical Republican. After running for President as a Libertarian party nominee, and getting near 2% of the vote, he recognized this to be folly. Ron is a smart man, a successful MD, gynecologist by specialty. Not a specialty that your average moron gets into, and builds a successful practice.

I don't think he held any belief that his candidacy would be successful, but that it would spread the truth, and raise awareness of where the United States is headed with the present two party pick the lesser of two evils system.
His increasing popularity in each of the last few cycles, especially with younger voters, says he has accomplished what he set out to do. His son in the Senate, Rand, seems to share his beliefs and we'll have to wait and see what legacy Ron Paul leaves. This man is a serious Patriot and far from the nut job that many people try to make of him with caricatures of his positions and philosophy.
