Russia confirms Iran missile deal

Russia has confirmed a deal to sell surface-to-air missiles to Iran, insisting they are for defence only.
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said a contract to deliver TOR-M1 missiles to Iran had been signed.
He said the deal "in no way upsets the balance of forces in the region," Russian news agencies reported.
Iran has reportedly agreed to buy 29 of the mobile air defence systems in a contract worth more than $700m (£400m; 600m euros).
The BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Moscow says the sale is not banned under any treaty, but it has already been criticised by the United States and Israel.
Earlier, Iran announced that it was planning to build a second nuclear power plant in the south of the country, despite coming under pressure from the international community over its nuclear ambitions.
Iran has previously said it wants to build 20 nuclear power stations in as many years.
Earlier this year the Russian government faced criticism from the West when Moscow agreed to sell missile systems to Syria.

cause they're probably going to wangle their way to possession of nuclear weapons ...
EDIT: Here's a link to a description of the system the Iranians are buying; it looks neat on paper. http://www.defense-update.com/products/t/tor.htm

do you know what a global attack capability is, and who might be using it if iran doesn't back off?
try reading posts twice if you don't understand them, i bet it'll help.
EDIT: More tough talk from the guy who never wore a uniform. Why don't you join up and volunteer for the first wave into Iran?

And up to their plans to get nuclear capacities. Israel also has nuclear capacities, so do much other states. Why shouldn´t they be allowed to have (Yes I am of ZEE GERMANS so please flame at me now).
Just don´t give them a reason to use them. If I would be in charge for Irans national safety I would get my hands on every weapon possible just to assure that I am ready when the US are starting an attack war without announcing it (what they never did since WW II).
And the rockets indicated are really only for defence. So if your country doesn´t attack them why should they fear the GtA-Missiles ?. I am pretty sure they wouldn´t attack planes which they allowed into their airspace in the first.
Put yourslef in the position of Iranian Defense Ministry official.
You haven't got any serious weapons, but the US insisted you have, and is threatening to invade you to take them from you.
You've seen this scenario before, with a nearby country. It turned out they didn't have any weapons after all, but their nation was invaded and trashed anyway.
So, you have 2 options:
a) continue to insist you have no serious weapons and make sure any plans you did have to get them are stopped, so that you can easily convince people you're telling the truth;
b) continue to insist you have no serious weapons, but make sure you get some by whatever means you can.
We've seen that option a) doesn't work. What do you think the Iranians are going to do, if they've any sense at all?
