Is sadness (or happiness) a state of mind or a state of being. In other words , can you BE sad or FEEL sad.
Most of the sadness I have experienced was caused by the belief that I will feel sad (about something that happened) soon, rather than an actual physical state at that moment in time. The anticipated pain never really kicks in.
If sadness is just a feeling connected to a belief about how somethig will make us feel in a minute, it should be possible to change this feeling almost effortlessly, by believing we will be happy. I think this a bit of a bhuddist concept.
If sadness is an actual physiological state then we have to wait for our bodies to adjust before we can cheer up. This is more of a medication/scientific approach.
So what do you think? Do we "be" sad or "feel" sad or perhaps a bit of both?

How we deal with it says what we "be".
