But, seriously, this is a basic technique. You can easily google it. There is nothing nefarious about using a series of PCR primers to amplify and sequence a viral genome. It's standard practice. The virus has been s ...[text shortened]... able. We've gone way past ignoring the elephant in the room to pretending the elephant is fake news.

Scientifically, the 'correct virus' as you call it is determined by sequence alignment with the consensus sequence. Since the sequence lines up with others from the same virus, but not other viruses, it's sars cov2. The sequence of the translated 'spike' protein (and other protein) is also consistent with the sequence of the RNA transcript.
