This thread is for predictions of who the Donald will pick and why, not for any discussion of whether there should be a pick before the election (there will be and they will certainly be confirmed absent some extraordinary scandal though probably after the election in a lame duck session).
I know that far right wingers are pressing for the inexperienced Amy Coney Barrett (she's been a judge for all of three years) and with this clown show administration they might get their wish, but I'd say a far smarter choice would be Barbara Lagoa. There's a good article here explaining why though Republicans in Florida might be a bit optimistic about the pick's ability to turn things around for Trump in Florida: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/09/20/florida-republicans-lagoa-trump-419109
Lagoa has significant experience as a judge having served on the Florida Supreme Court for 13 years before being confirmed by a 80-15 Senate vote to United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit last November. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Lagoa
She also showed sufficient political hackness to please this administration when she ignored normal standards by declining to recuse herself from a vote regarding a Republican law meant to restrict voting rights for ex-felons that she had already ruled on on the Florida Supreme Court:
Lagoa came came under fire recently for refusing to recusing herself from a case in which the federal appeals court upheld a Florida law that requires felons to pay off their court fines and fees before having their voting rights restored. The law was passed by the Republican-controlled state Legislature after voters approved a constitutional amendment that ended the state’s lifetime voting ban for most felons.
Lagoa and another judge on the appeals court previously sat on the state Supreme Court when it considered how to interpret the amendment. (from the Politico article already cited).
So she's qualified, willing to compromise judicial standards for right wing political advantage, Cuban, from Florida and the woman promised with Trump's new focus on what Earl likes to call (only when Democrats do it, however) "identity politics".
With most Republicans administrations, I'd call it a "no-brainer" but this one doesn't seem able to reach that ability, so it's still up in the air.

"Last week, President Donald Trump named Cruz and another Texan to a list of potential picks for the U.S. Supreme Court if he gets a second term"
Trump wanted Ted Cruz for SCOTUS. Let that sink in.
This proves Trump's only interested in sycophants who will rule in his favor, to serve on the highest court in the country.
@vivify saidTrump has no intention of naming Ted Cruz to the SCOTUS and never did. He thinks adding a couple of well-known Texans to his lists a few weeks ago might help him hold on to Texas this election which looks unusually competitive. Cruz is also a sop to Hispanics (and people born in Canada I suppose).

The post is also off-topic unless you think the Donald is actually going to nominate Cruz to fill Ginsburg's seat. Do you?
The post that was quoted here has been removedWhat exactly do you have against some grown ups (if any exist here anymore) discussing the next person likely to be on the SCOTUS?
There are billion other threads to bicker about Trump's moral inadequacies; why keep insisting on taking this one off the rails before it even starts?

If trumpy-boy had his way, the description I give of his chosen scotus is exactly what he would go for.
It is completely on topic. But keeps getting alerted... so, by changing the wording, but meaning the same, I’m hedging the truth against moronity.
@vivify saidCruz called Trump a sniveling coward

Trump will dangle the offer and then do his best to embarrass him
just like he did with Romney
he'll pick a woman
