Trump safe after apparent 'attempted assassination' by gunman with AK-47
WASHINGTON (AP) — The man who authorities say pointed a rifle with a scope into former President Donald Trump’s golf club and was arrested is Ryan Wesley Routh, three law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.
The man had a calm, flat demeanor and showed little emotion when he was stopped by police, Snyder said, saying the suspect did not question why he was being pulled over.
“He never asked, ‘what is this about?’ Obviously, law enforcement with long rifles, blue lights, a lot going on. He never questioned it,” Snyder said.
In an email to supporters, Trump said: “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!”
“Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!” he said.

So, I guess he was out putt-putting on the green, and supposedly some unauthorized character was about. It's not even clear the guy took any shots.
The timing is perfect. Just as Trump is down 5 points in the polls and dropping.
This is not going to translate into poll gold for the Trumpster Fire.

And the Velveeta Vulgarian just isn't clever enough to pull off a staged assassination attempt. The only thing staged was the absurdly oversized ear diaper he wore in July. "Oh look at me! Look at me! Woe is me, being shot at as I tirelessly toil to save America!"
What could be the case is that Trump is such a revolting splooge dumpster to deal with that the Secret Service guys just don't feel motivated to do their best for him.

But here's the interesting part. This second guy somehow knew Trump was golfing despite this event not being in his public schedule. Quite odd that he both knew about this event and was able to get so close, a mere few hundred yards, which is not far for the type of gun he was carrying.

But, getting back to this whole "it was staged" sentiment, I do not believe it. Many on the Daily Kos website think it was staged, and to me it's just disappointing to see that even progressives can fall victim to unfounded conspiracy theories.
No, I don't see Trump getting mileage out of this (possible) second attempt to off him. Even if he got a tiny bump, so what? It'll be gone a week later, and last I checked the election is still a ways off. If anything, this whole affair will get the gun issue more front and center, which could actually help Harris.
