Political alignment aside, will Senator Edward Kennedy be remembered as a truly venerable Senator and thus a credit to his star-studded family dynasty? Does 47 years in the Senate cancel out suggestions that he underachieved?

Certainly he deserves credit for being an early champion of Civil Rights. His position on healthcare was very liberal, and if he wished to be one of the most influential liberal senators in US history, he certainliy achieved it.
