Once again , I am struck by how silly and stupid these intrusive blue laws are . (I'm speaking specificly about liquor , but feel free to rant about any others that get your goat .) Here in Colorado , I can't get real beer on sunday , or other spirits , excepting 3.2 beer in supermarkets . Silly , because I could buy twice as much 3.2 and cop the same buzz I could get the other 6 days . Additionally , I can not buy ANY food items in a liquor store ANY day . Not a stick of gum , a slim jim , a or even lousey bag of chips . I can go out to a bar/restaraunt (on sunday too) and get sh1t faced and eat all I want , but for some reason can't buy a stinkin snickers bar in a liquor store .

WTF ?!

Why do we still have these assinine laws in a country that brags so much about freedom , and preaches the need to bring freedom to the rest of the world ?

That was easy. Tradition. Inertia.

What makes you think that "reason" is involved?

"Never change what is obviously flawed. It holds political energy. When the time is ripe, some smart bastard will pop the seed and become a marvelous chimp."

Thank goodness we don't have that here... The liquor industry have embraced the need to provide snacks... especially salty ones that make you want to drink more.

Liquor stores here are full of chips, salty dips, beef jerky etc.
Supermarkets full of booze (though no spirits).

I don't know. The inalienable rights to liberty and pursuit of happiness are being suppressed by a large proportion of the local populace - probably the Christians for the most part..

Supermarkets in CA have hard liquor too. I can buy a bottle (one liter?) of vodka at Vons for like five bucks.

Same way in Wisconsin where I lived for quite a while . But of course that's a completely different scene up there as alcohol is quite a big business .

A friend who lived in Houston told me all of the liquor laws down there went according to voting district , with each having their own laws . He claimed it was common for one store to be closed while across the street another would be open . Anyone know if it's still the case there ?

SVW - How does it work in your part of Utah ?

Or those who have lost children to drunks with no viable ethical background. Wave to the camera dude. Kill another baby. Ten thousand young are no match for you. You are big. They are dead?

How else? A god damned state agency? We can buy beer at any gas station. And drink all the way home. But hard liquor is restricted to state owned stores.

but... we still pay 15% tax to the state from our beloved gas stations and super markets.

Go figure.

Why... The most important group. <giggle>

That seemed rather pointless.

well it does seem a bit silly... on the other hand, German laws are weird too.
1) You can shag when you're 14
2) you can drink when you're 16
3) you can drive a car when you're 18

So... we can be pregnant alcoholics by the time we get to drive. It only enlargens the risk of drunk driving imho-if you never have to watch how much you drink before, because you go home by public transport... it will be much harder to start watching again.

In an effort to cut child obesity the banned kingsize snickers and mars. Did they not they not think people might just go out and buy two small bars instead?

There is however one dry district in Auckland. Kind of an oddity in New Zealand.

Luckily the Trust's 7 day liquor outlet is just up the road from my inlaws...very handy indeed when we stay there.

In Staten Island, New York, You may only water your lawn if the hose is held in your hand.
In Oxford, Ohio, it is unlawful for a woman to appear in public while unshaven. This includes legs and face.
In Topeka, Kansas, servers are forbidden to serve wine in teacups.
In the fine state of Nebraska, it is not legal for a tavern owner to serve beer unless a nice kettle of soup is also brewing.
In Los Angeles, California, it is not legal to bathe two babies at the same time in the same tub.
I could go on forever. Just Ask if you'd like to hear more!
