Oh...wait...I know.
Because he was white too. Got it.

It doesn't even mention him other than his name.
He followed and recorded the confrontation in order to show it to the police.
@Suzianne
What does it mean life without parole PLUS 20 years? The body held in state in the prison before it can be interred? Even the lightest sentence puts the dude in prison til 2051 or so.
Maybe they tack on the 20 to cover the case of some appeal winning time off? Ok, you now get off in fifty years instead of life, then they go, nay, now it is seventy years?

''....disclosed Friday that Greg McMichael gave cellphone video of the shooting recorded by Bryan to an attorney, who leaked it.
“He believed it was going to exonerate him,” the prosecutor said.
Robert Rubin, one of Travis McMichael's defense attorneys, argued that his 35-year-old client deserved the possibility of parole. He said Travis McMichael opened fire only after “Mr. Arbery came at him and grabbed the gun.” But Rubin also acknowledged his client's decisions to arm himself and chase Arbery were ”reckless" and “thoughtless.”
''......All three men were also convicted of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and..........''

Suffice to say, he'll leave prison in a box.
@dood111 saidHey DOO, Do tell us about
Yes, because that's what he was.
He was casing the neighborhood.
Even if he wasn't, SO WHAT?
your heroic relative who shot
a home intruder five times but,
for some mysterious reason, you
are unable to show us news coverage
of this 'heroic relative,' of yours.
DOO, Do you ALWAYS LIE?
@sonhouse
Life is usually 20 years and you get a chance at parole every few years.
Life without parole plus 20 years means the life sentence may be overturned at a later date so they add those extra years just incase that happens.
It could take 10 years to overturn the life sentence so add the extra 20 and he'll do 30 years.
The guy who recorded the event will win his appeal but the other two won't.
