Originally posted by shavixmirAll English secondary schools (11 to 16) give easy to understand and very thorough sex education. A great deal of emphasis is placed on safe sex and a great deal of work is done with the children discussing the consequences of unprotected sex. It is also made perfectly clear that it is best to wait until after 16.
From the BBC:
The news comes as latest figures show the number of under-18s who became pregnant in England and Wales rose from 41,868 in 2002 to 42,173 in 2003.

Why on earth aren't these teenagers receiving sex education? Seemingly they're riddled with various sexually transmitted diseases ...[text shortened]... er skanky, it's quite "not on" as well.
Do you think teenagers should have sex education?
Dispite all this many children from 14 onwards are having sex on a regular basis.
Why? - because it is seen as 'cool' and that seems to be more important than having morals. How can we fight against that?🙁
Your attitude is very revealing of typical British culture: How do you fight against this...
Now, I'm not attacking you personally here, but you worded the prevailing attitude. And that attitude is what has to change.
There are many reasons why teenagers want to have sex, not least because their bodies are ready for it.
So, if you know they're going to do it anyways, then trying to get them to stop having it is only going to be counter-productive.
Research here in Holland shows that the higher the level of education of a child, the longer he/she waits to have sex.
So, basically a good general education should be delivered.
Assertiveness lessons should also be given to 12 and 13 year olds. Maybe lessons in self-confidence. Teach children how to decide what they want and how to word it properly.
Do the children get taught what body parts look like? What they're for and how to use them? Make it objective and rational.
Give children something to do.
Nothing like boredom to get kids experimenting with everything. Here's a couple of examples for boys and girls:
Paintball sessions
Parachute jumps
Water skiing
Go-carting
Mountaineering
Get them out there and get their adrenaline pumping.
Show them operas (and teach them what it's about), get them creating their own board games, teach them how to use music instruments.
Once they know what they want, how to say it and once they're busy learning to live and enjoy things, the drugs and sex problems will decline.

In my opinion i feel that the major problem with high sex rates, high std rates and birth rates is that it has become all too acceptable mainly by parents. Also the examples set by single parents and television do not help. For example sex and the city. It isalmost fashionable to sleep with many people at a young age.
