Absolutely.

It's complete crap that a death row inmate receives the most humane form of capital punishment available, while the terminally ill must suffer a long and painful (and very expensive) death, with no alternative but to attempt suicide themselves. I want to die without pain, much like an old pet.

I vote yes. But we should not make that decision when we've turned ill.
It should be made before that, though if we decide we want to commit
suicide if we turn ill and then decide we want to live after all once we get ill,
we should be allowed to change our minds at that time. But only in that
direction.

Also, if we turn into vegetables without any hope from medical science, we
should be terminated without hesitation, let family members be damned.

Euthanasia was recently legalized in Luxembourg, only the third country to do so, after Holland and Belgium. I don't see why it's so controversial, if someone is terminally ill and has no hopes of recovery, why shouldn't they be allowed to be put out of their misery?

One of the most terrifying things I can imagine is being forced to live while in tremendous physical or mental pain when all I want to do is die. The fact that my own people; my own country; my own government, my own culture, my own family would do that to me is monstrous. It ranks up there with my nightmares of being kidnapped by sadists who torture me but won't let me die.

Maybe those of you who haven't been really depressed can't understand.

Presumably what you mean is... Why shouldn't they be allowed to be put themselves out of their misery?

Sorry to be pedantic, but in this case there is a great deal of significance in the exact words that are used.

In the case of euthanasia, this is not the case and instead the "killing" is done by a doctor. I don't think it's legal anywhere to assist in suicide.

Thanks for adding the "very expensive" part. Old people use up way too much of our health care money.

They are legal under certain circumstances here in the State of Oregon.

Of course, it took two votes in the affirmative and withstanding court challenges and backlash from the Federal government to get it going but it has been the case here for many years now.

The fear mongering of the anti-euthanasia crowd, who claimed that suicides would run amok or that there would be an epidemic of people euthanized against their will, has not materialized. Very few choose a doctor assisted death here.

Oh, and I did vote 'yes' both times.

It depends on the condition the person finds him/herself.
but if they want to do it, its fine by me, after all its their life.
