The lawmakers point out that much of the information published by WikiLeaks was also published by mainstream outlets, including The New York Times and The Washington Post. “Based on the legal logic of this indictment, any of those newspapers could be prosecuted for engaging in these reporting activities,” they said.

The letter concludes: “Every day that the prosecution of Julian Assange continues is another day that our own government needlessly undermines our own moral authority abroad and rolls back the freedom of the press under the First Amendment at home. We urge you to immediately drop these Trump-era charges against Mr. Assange and halt this dangerous prosecution.”

Why is extradition taking so long if that is the goal? Is it possible the evidence is too weak to actually prosecute so the US is perfectly happy having Assange imprisoned abroad? After all, the US only has the word of someone who was tortured into a false confession. Chelsea Manning would have implicated the pope if it was under the stress of torture. Isn't that the whole point of torture? To get false confessions?

I will go farther than dropping charges. I think Assange should be pardoned. That is what a real man would do. Their evidence is a false confession from torture. Is that what the western empire is all about?

"our own government needlessly undermines our own moral authority abroad"

What authority?

Note also that that witch hunt began before Trump.

Over 80% of people want Assange and Snowden pardoned.

https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/12/29952658/edward-snowden-reacts-to-elon-musks-pardon-poll-thats-a-very-big

Now the establishment has to turn people against whistleblowers to bring that number down. I wonder how long it took to get Jack Teixeira to take the bait.

Nobody got killed in the real world, just your fake made up world. Is there any propaganda you will not repeat mindlessly?

Nope. Assange exposed government for killing people and doing harm. Assange is not the only one either. Former intelligence officer Daniel Everett Hale exposed Obama’s drone assassination program which kills mostly civilians like women and children.

What you see here is a pattern of government punishing people who expose war crimes which are killing innocent civilians in the real world. Government is run by the mafia state. Like all monsters, they like it better in the dark. Why do you think the CIA was planning to assassinate Assange? They are evil.
The CIA was going to Khashoggi him, just like a mob hit.

Right, no moral authority.
What does it matter when the witch hunt to get Assange began? Trump is a creep. He denied wanting to assassinate Assange, but Trump openly said he wanted Assange to be executed. Not exactly consistent.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Which kidnapping?

In the news today I noticed some Russian dissident was sentenced to a prison term, I think 25 years. How is imprisoning Assange any different than that? Are Americans supposed to be outraged when Russia did pretty much what the USA did to Assange?

Are we supposed to blindly accept the double standard?

Julian Assange is not a US citizen. He has not acted on the soil of the US.
His alleged crimes concern the information concerning the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
These wars were acts of aggression by the US. The US had no valid reasons to invade these countries on the other side of the planet.
Nevertheless, Julian Assange is, in effect, robbed from a non-US country, extradited to the US to punish him.
Therefore, I say that it is an international kidnapping.
As well, Russia could kidnap from Europe a journalist who has revealed Russian war crimes in Ukraine, which Russia is militarily invading.

You say:

"In the news today I noticed some Russian dissident was sentenced to a prison term, I think 25 years. How is imprisoning Assange any different than that?"

The difference I am talking about is that Kara-Murza is a Russian dissident jailed by Russia, he is not an American journalist jailed by Russia. In turn, the US desperately wants to jail Julian Assange, who is not the US citizen and does not live in the US.

Liar, at the very least you cannot possibly know the effects that these latest leaks will have on the ground in places like Ukraine, but then you prefer Putin’s regime to anywhere else on the planet so of course you support the actions of this right wing gun nut.

All he did was expose war crimes. You are on the side of criminals. You want to cover up their murdering people.
