Yeah dude, basically everyone who wasn't a Trump sycophant knew right away that going full-out war with Iran was a very bad idea. We have a bunch of examples from recent history. Combine that with the lack of experience in these types of things up and down the chain of command, with massive firings of generals and leaders, their replacement with idiots who just beat their chests and say "bomb" and "strength" and "stop being fat" to make themselves seem tough, and this outcome was inevitable.

There is no Monday morning quarterbacking here. We saw Trump throw the interception, and Iran returned it for a pick 6 touchdown. In... real... time.

Even the Trump sycophants, at the time were trying their hardest to defend Trump and Hegseth, were saying "well, this seems like a bad decision but let's see what Trump has up his sleeve." It turned out, he had nothing up his sleeve. This result occurred because he put too many dumb people around him who didn't know what the obvious negatives were for bombing Iran. Idiots.

However the problem is of course that if a war is ongoing iot is very hard to say, oh we didn't mean it and end it easily.

Open parliament maybe isn't necessary for surprise attacks. But consultation and conference with congress should be required for conflicts like this where a single action is likely to cause outright war. This action could have easily been signed off on by the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations without anyone else knowing about it, and stipulations could be drawn on timing and scope.

If a 30 day conflict causes a war, we run into the same problem.
