While I am in agreement that Russia's invasion of Georgia was evil and despicable, so is the government of Georgia. However, even if the government of Georgia was the target of the invasion, it would still be unwarranted because Georgia is no longer the property of the USSR, as there is no longer any USSR to speak of.
That said, I agree with no1marauder that Georgia cannot be in NATO, but it can be in TO. Or the EU.

You have lost the plot.
Georgia is further East than Iran!
And France is one of the greatest countries in the world and Portugal... well... well, Portugal has something going for it too.

There is no Soviet Union so a military alliance with the supposed aim of defending Western Europe from Communist aggression is rather superfluous.

Please explain to me how people care about Portugal and how France has a strong and stable government.
Portugal has been an integral part of the EU for a long time. The EU cares enough about Portugal that it was included in the initial group of countries that are part of the Euro. The President of the European Commission is himself a Portuguese and the Lisbon Treaty was negotiated, drafted and approved by government officials during the Portuguese presidency of the EU. I could go on about foreign institutions and companies investing in Portugal (like MIT's recent choice of Portugal for its newest research center in Europe) but there's really no point to prove how childish your comments are.
Despite all that, it would be completely irrelevant if 'people' (whoever you think these people are) cared about Portugal or not. You have completely and utterly failed to understand the project and the goals of the EU.

And by the way, Portuguese people revolted against its dictator because people didn't want to kill others to maintain an empire.
