250 Million childern are sold into slavery each year on our planet, usually by their parent. Parent usually being the male.

Under the sanction of the UN.

So?

What are we going to do about it?

<edit> To support SVW's favorite lover... Capitalism, ie, greed.

I'll tell you what we are going to do. We are going to spend a billion dollars on a UN police force to hunt down and kill/capture and imprison the perps.

Maybe ten billion.

The amount doesn't matter. The deed does.

In the next fifty years, let us all make a goal of killing slavery.

Please?

I am apostate.

But I think they have granted full rights to all people. So... What does that mean? A work in progress?

Probably.

As an apostate I can't answer with authority. Maybe another RHP can do it.

I reckon good international trade-union laws for all branches will put an end to slavery.

A dodgy stat indeed. 250 million children a year when our total global population is 4000 million? Within 10 years, more than half the world's population will be sold.

Are some children sold many times or do you have a different definition of slavery from the rest of us?

While this is an important issue, it looks like another made-up statistic from SVW.
A quick google gives http://salt.claretianpubs.org/stats/2000/05/sh0005.html,
which says 27 million people currently live in slavery.

The problem, in my opinion, is really just a symptom of the economic system we currently live under. This system encourages us to see each other as resources to be exploited, so those who explolit other people by making them work under captivity are really just taking things to their logical extreme.

Once we've abolished capitalism, there will, by definition, be no slavery.

Like Shavi says, union rights for all is a step in the right direction.

So you mean all societies that owned slaves are capitalist societies, as you seem to equate slavery with capitalism?

So the ancient Isrealites, Egyption pharoahs, African tribes, Incas and European feudal societies were all no-good capitalists?

No, of course slavery doesn't just exist in capitalist societies.
It exists in societies where we're supposed to see other people as something to be exploited and used. That's really been the case in most social structures up to and including capitalism.
Once that's gone, there'll be no slavery.

I quoted the "history channel" special on "Slavery: A Modern Look"

For what it's worth.

Indonesia played a big part of it.

'splain to me.

You want to spend my money without my permission.

See socialism and communism.

'splain to me again. Why am I not then a slave? Because "your chimp village can beat up my chimp village"?

If one is "coerced" or "forced" to support a large predatory "thing"... isn't that the definition of "slavery"?

Or do you claim some "magic" moral authority? Something in the universe that tells you it is ok to take my hard earned money? 'splain this magic moral authority. Please. I'll be waiting to hear from you.

If I am forced to work long hours in difficult conditions, in order to earn enough to feed my children, is that not slavery?

This magic moral authority is called 'democracy'. You may have heard of it.
