Smoke grenades and shooting in NY subway:

Debates

@AverageJoe1
Of course you have to have a gun. You live in abject fear 24/7. I don't have a gun, don't want a gun and my dad was killed in a robbery at their mom and pop store by a gun toting gang. So I never will buy a gun unless civil war 2 actually breaks out.

I haven't seen anything on what kind of gun the shooter used, but I doubt it was an AR or AK. It certainly wouldn't be a .50 Cal BMG, as you suggest in your opening. . Long guns are hard to conceal under a light jacket
I'm guessing a hi-cap 9mm pistol.

Witnesses to the shooting described the gunman as a short, dark-skinned man with a heavy build wearing a green construction vest and gray sweatshirt.

The authorities have not released a suspect’s name, nor a motive for the attack. But another high-ranking police official said that the attack appeared to have been planned and showed no signs of having stemmed from something spontaneous like a dispute on the train.

Hmmmm...."dark-skinned".....let me put my thinking cap on.
What do you suppose that really means?

Right, except this happened in the place with "some of the strictest and most complicated gun laws in the country."

Guarantee 'ya the gun was not
purchased in NEW YORK.

Last week a black guy, who was later caught, had never been described as a black guy. They did, however, say he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt ( think libs call it a hoody, or hoodie, or, hooded sweatshirt). But I have noticed recently, like the invaders are now being called invaders, that perpretarors are now being described by color, which probably adds about 80% to help officers capture the cretins.
I mean....................what is the deal?

Most likely. They found extra magazines on the floor of the subway. Shell casings at the scene should tell the caliber.

Glock 17s (G17) have a 17 round mag standard. 9mm is most common.

Your post assumes the gun used was purchased in NY:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2017/10/04/las-vegas-shooter-bought-33-guns-last-12-months/730634001/

The Las Vegas shooter brought guns from Utah, California and Texas, in addition to Nevada.

No matter how strict NY gun laws are they can't stop people from shopping around in other states. Strict guns laws need to be nationwide.
Then possibly the OP was premature until we find out, in fact, whether the gun was brought in from out of state.

The suspect's vehicle had plates from Arizona.

But hey, we NEED all those AK47's and AR15's and 50 caliber machine guns to we can just get our supply of deer and caribou and we need to protect our family from the coming Civil War II.
And those 50 round clips, to
make sure we don't miss.

That you're a racist who only comments on posts denigrating non-whites.

It is said that he fired 33 shots.

Two Glock 17 mags would total 34 rounds, minus the one round that jammed his gun, equals 33 rounds.

I was surprised to read that his Glock 17 jammed.
Glocks have a reputation of extreme reliability. It was their major selling point when introduced.
I suspect either an exotic ammo choice or limp-wristing as the cause. Glocks have a reputation for jamming if not held with a tight arm, and the extreme super defense atomic fireball black ops plutonium hollow point 9mm ammo can be finicky in a lot of guns.
