If the US is so opposed to colonialism why does it maintain more military bases around the world than any conventional colonial power ever did?

If the US is so opposed to Weapons of Mass Destruction why does it continue to upgrade and maintain exponentially more stocks of such weapons than any other country, in defiance of the NPT?

If the US is so committed to freedom why has it effectively enslaved generations of Iraqis by handing the Iraqi private sector over to American corporations?

I agree that it's hardly fashionable to revisit such well trodden ground, but there's a substantial proportion of posters here who will attempt to justify these things. That's reason enough for me.
