I thought this a good thread after marauder started one about the greatness of socialism as he brought up the economy of California as evidence. Problem is, that is not socialism. No, marauder was, in fact, praising the corporate giants in California for the success of their economy. To be a true socialist nation, is to be Venezuela, you have all kinds of natural resources and potential, but the corrupt and inefficient government makes you live in poverty as it runs industry.
In effect, his entire thread was a lie.
@whodey saidHere's a ball. Go play on the freeway.

@whodey saidAs you say Venezuella's problems are because of corrupt and inefficient government.

That can happen in any ideology.
As for California being a socialist state to my knowledge marauder
has never said that. (I chalenge you to show where!)
He has described some of their policies as being more socialist
(ie liberal). Would you deny that?
@wolfgang59 saidHis entire post was to praise the high taxation and government overreach for the state's financial success, while ignoring that evil rich corporation are what he was really praising, and ignoring the homeless epidemic in that state because of the outrageous cost of living from all the Progressive policies.

It's called cherry picking on acid.
@whodey saidThose rich corporations would relocate if it was to their advantage

so it can't be that bad for them ... in fact a reasonable conclusion
is that it is good for them. But that debate is in another thread.
Now - before we digress further - are you going to
show where anyone called CA a socialist state?

A) Whodey, doesn't know what "X" means;
B) He doesn't read people's posts very well. For example on page 1, I wrote this:
no1: Of course, California isn't socialist by any reasonable definition but it has adopted policies which right wingers claim are socialist like increased taxes on the wealthy and a more robust safety net than in most of the country. The point being things that conservatives call "socialist" don't preclude a growing and healthy economy (in fact, they might enhance its possibility).
@whodey saidVenezuela, even at the height of Chavez's power, had well over 2/3 of its economy in the hands of private individuals or privately-owned corporations thus it was never "socialist" either.

Whodey… for God's sake... stop opening your arse and letting your fingers fart.
Ask thyself: "Do the people control production and distribution?"
If not... it's not socialism.
As for California... I haven't read Marauder's article... but something, something deep inside, imagines California isn't socialist either and that Marauder was probably talking a few aspects of Californian politics or something.
I mean, hell, it's not like anything you ever write is actually correct anyways.
@no1marauder saidThe key to their economy is oil

Chavez and company drove in into the ground

@whodey saidBut of course there can be no balance between the two extremes? You think it's ok for say, the way Trump has eviscerated the EPA so now fracking can happen ANYWHERE and don't tell US about methane in your water, if you can light your water with a match, it's not US, it was that way before we ever got here.

It's called cherry picking on acid.
So that is the result of tiny government, it's called ABRIGATION OF RESPONSIBILITY. Government has at least ONE duty, PROTECT ITS CITIZENS.
You think eviscerating the EPA does that?
Oh, so you are going to pull the 'look at all those JOBS we generated' card?
@whodey saidDo you know the difference between Socialism and Communism ?

Why ??
Here's what a Republican Congressman thinks "socialism" is:
@DevinNunes
At restaurant tonight waitress asks if we want straws. Says she has to ask now in fear of “THE STRAW POLICE”. Welcome to Socialism in California!
