As you say Venezuella's problems are because of corrupt and inefficient government.
That can happen in any ideology.
As for California being a socialist state to my knowledge marauder
has never said that. (I chalenge you to show where!)
He has described some of their policies as being more socialist
(ie liberal). Would you deny that?

His entire post was to praise the high taxation and government overreach for the state's financial success, while ignoring that evil rich corporation are what he was really praising, and ignoring the homeless epidemic in that state because of the outrageous cost of living from all the Progressive policies.

Venezuela, even at the height of Chavez's power, had well over 2/3 of its economy in the hands of private individuals or privately-owned corporations thus it was never "socialist" either.

As for California... I haven't read Marauder's article... but something, something deep inside, imagines California isn't socialist either and that Marauder was probably talking a few aspects of Californian politics or something.

But of course there can be no balance between the two extremes? You think it's ok for say, the way Trump has eviscerated the EPA so now fracking can happen ANYWHERE and don't tell US about methane in your water, if you can light your water with a match, it's not US, it was that way before we ever got here.
So that is the result of tiny government, it's called ABRIGATION OF RESPONSIBILITY. Government has at least ONE duty, PROTECT ITS CITIZENS.
